Printify is a company that sells personalized shirts and other clothing types. Its business model is called Print on Demand, or commonly known as POD.

As a POD company, it prints designs on shirts the way a customer wants it to, and it prints the clothing immediately. One of the most important benefits is that the customer does not have to order in bulk, as Printify will print one piece of a shirt if that is the order.

But is Printify any good? In this review, we will cover the details of how the company works, how it ships the items, whether the service is free, and also show you how to add it to your e-commerce store.

How does Printify work?

To be able to use Printify as a seller, the first thing you have to do is to sign up for an account. We will discuss the pricing later, but you need to do this before you can place orders in the Printify shop.

After signing up, you have to start browsing for products that you want to sell. Printify offers a huge collection of mugs, clothing like shirts and hoodies, phone cases, and a whole lot more.

It is up to you if you want to niche up or down, which means your store can be focused on all these products, or you can choose only a few, For example, you can focus on clothing only, or you can concentrate on gift items like coffee cups.

All of these products are empty, meaning they have no print. It is up to you to create your own design, or you can use Printify’s library of designs. One thing you must not forget is to design your own logo. Whether you are selling shirts or mugs, your logo must be printed there somewhere, along with your website address.

In summary, this is how it works:

  • Sign up for an account
  • Choose the products you want to sell
  • Design the product on the platform
  • Order the product
  • Printify ships the product

When we talk about design, the platform will show you a blank shirt (or any product you choose) on the screen. What you have to do is to drag your design, and drop it on the shirt. Move the design up and down, and resize it if you want.

Once final, send it to Printify on the same platform for approval.

This design process is called a mock-up. It has to be approved because it is only Printify that knows if the design is printable or not. Too small and it cannot be printed, too big and it may cost you more.

After paying for the order, Printify is going to ship the order to your customer. Usually, shipping can take at least three business days. In the US, shipping can take between 5 and 7 days.

What products can I sell with Printify?

Printify offers a wide range of products for you to choose from. The most popular are shirts and coffee mugs.

Can you use Printify with Shopify?

Yes, you can use Printify with Shopify. Printify has an app that you can buy in the Shopify marketplace. After integrating the two platforms, you can directly access your Printify dashboard form your Shopify store, do the design for there, and also fulfil orders from there.

There are two ways to add Printify on your Shopify store:

  1. Log in to Shopify and go to the app marketplace; search for Printify and install it
  2. Go to Printify website, log in, click on the menu icon on the top right, and then choose My Store.

If you are doing it on Printify’s website, the page would ask you if you want to add it to Shopify, WooCommerce, or Etsy. Choose Shopify, and then click on the Connect button.

The system will now ask you for your Shopify’s URL. Type it and then hit Continue. If your details are correct, the integration should be completed in a matter of seconds.

Once this is done, you have to log-in to your Shopify account, and then access the platform from there. No matter what method you choose to integrate the two accounts, the way it works is the same.

You have to access the app from your Shopify store, and that is where you create mock-ups and fulfil orders.

Can you use Printify with WooCommerce?

Yes, you can use it on your WooCommerce store, but the integration between that and your WordPress store can be a little more complicated than Shopify.

Here is a guide on how you can do it:

  • Enable your REST API on your WooCommerce plug-in.
  • Do this by going to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Next, look for WooCommerce > Settings > API > Enable REST API

Once done, click Save.

The next step is to go to Printify’s website and then click the menu button on the top right. It is the button that has three dots. Next, click on My Stores, then choose WooCommerce. Click the Connect button.

After this, the system would ask for your WooCommerce store link, so enter that and click Continue. The integration should be completed in a matter of seconds, and you can now access Printify from your WooCommerce dashboard.

How long does it take to ship?

Printify has several fulfillment centers around the world, so the actual printing and shipping will come from different countries, depending n the destination country of the order.

On top of that, Printify also outsources its printing options to different providers. What this means is that it does not actually do the printing and the shipping, but its partners.

Some examples of these partners are:

  • Textildruck Europa – one of the largest textile printers in Europe with over 50 years of experience in the industry.
  • OPT OnDemand – a pioneer of ecological printing that has print shops in Europe.
  • DTG2Go – a US-based print on demand service using direct-to-garment technology; all products are printed in the United States.
  • WOYC – specializes in printing phone casing

There are two ways to set-up the shipping options on Printify. The first one is by weight, and the second one is a flat rate.

Once the tracking number is available, the tracking number should show up on your store, and you can give this tracking number to your customer.

For Express Shipping in the United States, it would take up to three business days. For international shipment, it can take up to 30 business days.

There is one important thing to know here: not all providers ship worldwide. What this means is that as you choose the products you sell, you must also check if it is shipped internationally, the US only, or the UK only.

How much is the shipping? The shipping fee is automatic, and you can enable it on your store’s dashboard. Once done, the Printify app will automatically calculate the shipping and charge your customer for it.

How is the customer service experience?

Based on customer reviews, Printify is known for its great customer service. If you send them a message, someone is going to help you and give you useful answers within 24 hours. You can contact them at any time of the day.

Printify also has a massive knowledgebase. On the website, it has a Help Center where you can type your inquiry, and then you can get answers from the hundreds of tutorials on the website. From this knowledgebase, you can learn more about fees, installation, shipping, and setting up your store.

Printify Pricing Plans

Printify offers a free account, and it also offers Premium and Enterprise accounts. Let us review each.

For the free account, you get the following:

  • Integration with five stores
  • Unlimited designs
  • Mock-up generator
  • Manual order creation
  • 24/7 support
  • Self-serve help center

Five stores mean you can integrate one Printify account with five different websites. This is great if you are running several websites with different specializations. For example, one website is just selling mugs, while the other sells clothing.

The Premium account costs $29 per month. Like the free account, you can integrate it with several stores, but your limit is ten stores, not five.

Here are the other benefits of the Premium account:

  • Integration with Shopify, Etsy, and WooCommerce
  • Self-serve help center
  • Custom order import
  • Up to 20% discount on all products

Customer order import means you can sell personalized products that are not in the SKU or list of Printify. For example, you can sell a bundle of clothing, which is not in the Printify app. With customer import, you can add that bundle to the list, so Printify knows about it, and then ship it as a bundle.

The last account type is for big companies. It has no price, as the company must have a discussion with Printify management for the pricing. With an Enterprise account, you can integrate Printify with unlimited stores and also sell unlimited designs.

On top of the features and benefits of the Free and Premium accounts, Enterprise accounts would get custom API integration, a dedicated account manager, and branded customer support, which means you can print your brand on the packaging.

If you are just starting out your e-commerce store, you have to try the free service and then move to the Premium one once your business grows.

Printify Customer Reviews

From Shopify, Printify currently holds a rating of 4.5 from 1.419 reviews. Out of all these reviews, 26 people rated it with two stars, 104 rated it with 1 star, and 1,170 users rated it with five stars.

So what do the dissatisfied customers have to say? Most of the unhappy customers complain the customer service of Printify has opportunities. It takes some days to get answers, and some of the representatives do not bother to understand the issue fully.

There are also some issues about the quality of the print, saying that the mock-up generator is different from the finished product. There are also complaints during the holidays that the company cannot keep up with the demand, and it results in delays of more than 20 days.

Despite this, there are still thousands of users who are satisfied, so you might as well as give it a try and see if these complaints are just things that fell through the cracks or not.
